Dark as roses, fine as sand
Feel your healing and your sting again
I hear you laughing and my soul is saved
On forgotten graves you cry

Crawl like ivy up my spine
Through my nerves and into my eyes
Cuts like anguish
Or recollections of better days gone by

Kali

I was looking for an illustration of Goddess Kali when this one came up. So beautiful!! This was made as a poster concept and design for Poetry in Public India, which is a movement that celebrates and upholds urban India’s rich literary tradition and local writing talent by displaying poems by women poets of all ages, sexual orientations and ethnic groups in public and cultural spaces across urban India. It aims to make women’s poetry freely accessible to the masses, at unconventional public and cultural spaces in urban India, through the creative medium of poster art.  PPI also assists local poets in reaching out to wider audiences through a free urban forum. The hope is to create a space and a movement, which enables the public to interact with powerful feminist verse and art.

Year of the Fire Rooster

mysticmammaYear of the Fire Rooster comes a crowing saying, Wake up! His crow alerts us that a new day is dawning, but we must rise and mobilize into action as we come together for the wellbeing of our roost/planet. All Chinese wisdom traditions, including medicine, divination, astrology, and feng shui, are systems of pattern identification that guide us in adapting gracefully to change. Astrology is best viewed as a tool to discern where we are in the shifting cycles of time. A new chapter of the story is about to begin with the arrival of the Fire Rooster.

Carmen Herrera : It’s not cheap getting old.

With everything she went through to get where she is today, Carmen has not lost her sense of humour. Commenting on the fact that her paintings are now very expensive, she does not try to hide her delight, particularly as she herself put it: “It’s not cheap getting old”.

Born in Havana in 1915, Herrera has lived in Paris, Cuba and New York where she eventually settled in 1954. At 101 years old, Herrera is in her artistic prime. She has been a working artist for the best part of a century, but it wasn’t until 2004, at the age of 89, that she sold her first painting.

Sanjay Patel : Sarasvati

Sanjay Patel is an illustrator and animator. He has worked in the animation department of various projects, most of them animated films released by Pixar.

Saraswati is the Hindu goddess of learning, wisdom, music, and aesthetics. She is the goddess of speech. She is identified as the inventor of Sanskrit and, appropriately, gives Ganesha the gifts of pen and inks. She is also a patron of the arts and sciencesIn Hindu art, Saraswati is usually depicted as a graceful youth wearing a white sari, which symbolises purity. Not being concerned with worldly goods she rarely wears jewellery. She may have a crescent on her forehead and be seated on a lotus flower. Alternatively, she may be shown riding her vehicle (vahana), either a swan or goose. The hands hold items with symbolic meaning — a pustaka (book or script), a mālā (rosary, garland), the lotus (a symbol of spiritual knowledge) and playing a musical instrument (vīnā).

What if it Works out between Us?

It will either work out between us or it won’t.
But I’m not afraid of the absurd failure.
I’m actually afraid of the possible success.

Speaking from the tongue of an experienced simpleton who obviously would rather be an emasculated, infantile complain-ee. This note should be pretty easy to understand.
All the warnings from the punk rock 101 courses over the years, since my first introduction to the, shall we say, ethics involved with independence and the embracement of your community has proven to be very true. I haven’t felt the excitement of listening to as well as creating music along with reading and writing for too many years now. I feel guity beyond words about these things.

". . . it´s always a good time for a revolution . . . but what I love is that people can do that thing in a kind of post punk, cont-cultural way, they now can self publish, or they can set up immediate kind of ecommerce, and they can reach that community, so now has never been a better time for creatives to, you know, promote product and to promote themselves and what they stand for and we never had this much sort of technology, we never had this much digital connection and the very fact that people are powerful and they can create a narrative around something that is suddenly very meaningful, you know, just maybe that is a massive power in itself" Caryn Franklin

From this moment on, strive to be your own best friend. Look within for your dreams, your inspiration, and your sense of hope. Trust your intuition and your passion. Celebrate your strengths and be open to areas of potential growth. Believe in yourself, and remember that you not only deserve a fulfilled life, your purpose fulfilled is exactly what the world needs. And finally, never be afraid to take small steps and never be too cautious to think big. (taken from Begin With Yes)

Where is home?

. . . it´s only by stoping movement that you can see where to go and it´s only by stepping out of your life and the world that you can see what you most deeply care about and find a home . . . but movement, ultimately, only has a meaning if you have a home to go back to, and home in the end is, of course, not just a place where you sleep, is a place where you stand . . .

Sending ambassadors for peace all around the world. These beautiful, deep and free birds that are filled with their own flaws and sparkling beauty are peace agents. For us to find peace, both in ourselves and also in the external world. These chaotic and explosive backgrounds are the context where these birds deliver their messages. These five ambassadors are part of a collection of many more. They desire for us to live true to ourselves and in deep connection with humanity, nature and the unknown. They are here to spread compassion. We are all stardust and infinity must be appreciated for what it is, the greatest mystery.
