Year of the Fire Rooster

His crow alerts us that a new day is dawning, but we must rise and mobilize into action as we come together for the wellbeing of our roost/planet. All Chinese wisdom traditions, including medicine, divination, astrology, and feng shui, are systems of pattern identification that guide us in adapting gracefully to change. Astrology is best viewed as a tool to discern where we are in the shifting cycles of time. A new chapter of the story is about to begin with the arrival of the Fire Rooster.

Carmen Herrera : It’s not cheap getting old.

With everything she went through to get where she is today, Carmen has not lost her sense of humour. Commenting on the fact that her paintings are now very expensive, she does not try to hide her delight, particularly as she herself put it: “It’s not cheap getting old”.

Born in Havana in 1915, Herrera has lived in Paris, Cuba and New York where she eventually settled in 1954. At 101 years old, Herrera is in her artistic prime. She has been a working artist for the best part of a century, but it wasn’t until 2004, at the age of 89, that she sold her first painting.
